It’s hard to believe that it has already been seven weeks since school started, and we are slowly entering midterm season. This year, 51勛圖厙 University has welcomed a large number of freshmen, each with their own stories, goals and energy on campus. This week’s freshman spotlight is on Laura Valenzi.

Laura Valenzi comes from Quebec, Canada. She graduated from Kingsway College this past spring, a school located in Oshawa, Ontario, and is majoring in pre-physical therapy. “My favourite class so far is A&P [anatomy and physiology],” Laura said. “I like it because Professor [Amanda] Moore is goated. She’s so nice and makes us do these little activities during class, and it actually keeps me awake during an 8:30 class. I can’t say much about my other 8:30 classes, though.”

So far, Laura has been enjoying campus life here at 51勛圖厙 and is involved in a few things, such as Gymnics. “Gymnics is great so far. I really enjoy it and like the different environment compared to the one I was in in high school.” A few other things Laura enjoys are going to IHOP with her Gymnic friends on weekends, working with kids by teaching them gymnastics, and enjoying the amount of couches that are on campus. “I really appreciate a comfortable couch to study on, and or just to hang out and talk to friends.”

Entering a new school and environment comes with challenges to adapt. It takes a lot of time to figure out how to manage your time wisely, how to organize yourself without going overboard, and to in general, enjoy your time here at school. Laura shared that learning how to balance her academic life and things outside of class has been a challenge she has been trying to overcome. “Understanding that there’s a lot more work to do outside of class time, compared to high school, and just figuring out how to balance work, school, and practice is a lot at once, but doable.” Some things Laura is looking forward to in the coming semesters are getting her degree, going on trips like Acrofest, and making new friends and having fun with them.
